Getting started is exciting.
This is how it all works.
Hi, it's Shaun your financial adviser here.
I'm really looking forward to meeting with you. Before we meet though, it’s important to take a moment to understand what will be involved and how it all works.
First, this is an exciting step in your journey. Together, we’re going to uncover your real needs and goals, and put together a solid plan to get there. This is the point where many clients tell me they felt like everything just got real. When they felt more secure and confident about their finances, their relationships became stronger, and life just got better.
Ready to start taking steps towards what matters to you most? Let's go!
Getting ready for our meeting
Once we agree to meet together, I’ll send you a calendar invite by email to confirm our appointment.
Before we meet, please think about the things that are important to you and that you want to discuss with me. These could be:
Specific financial goals like paying off your home loan
Goals related to your lifestyle or retirement
Just making a plan to get all your money stuff sorted
If it's important to you, then I want to hear about it.
Please track down your latest super statement, home loan balances and any life insurance policies too.
During our meeting
I'll ask you a range of questions to understand your goals more clearly, your personal family situation, your income and budget, your super, the things you own and the money you owe.
This will give me an overall snapshot of where things are at, and usually takes 30 to 60 minutes. Then I'll outline some of the basic strategies we could consider.
How long will this process take?
Short answer: It just depends on what you need.
If we're getting started with your Spending & Savings Plan, so you can manage your money better, we'll usually only need one initial appointment together.
If I'm completing your comprehensive Financial Planning, we'll usually need three appointments together over a 3-4 week period to complete the advice process:
1) Initial Appointment: Following which I'll prepare a proposal covering your advice and planning fee.
2) Information gathering and strategy discussion: By the end of this appointment you'll know exactly what we're going to do.
3) Statement of Advice: Documenting my complete advice including all fees and any product recommendations.
Once a year, we'll meet to review your plan and management services.
I'm here to help
I hope this helps take some of the mystery away from seeing a financial adviser and give you a better understanding of what to expect. Contact me if you have any questions or go ahead and take a look at my Quick guide to fees.
